First, choose the finger

Measure the finger you actually plan to wear the ring on. A favorite ring from another finger is not necessarily a reliable shortcut. Aim for the end of the day, when your hands are not cold, as our size guide recommends.

Think about the finished look, too. One delicate band and a wider stack can feel different. Your size is the starting point; the design matters just as much.

Method 1: The paper-strip check

You will need a narrow strip of paper, a pen and a ruler marked in millimeters.

1. Wrap the strip around the base of your chosen finger. Keep it snug without pulling it tight.
2. Mark the point where the paper overlaps.
3. Lay the strip flat and measure from its starting edge to your mark in millimeters. This is your finger’s circumference.

Method 2: Measure a ring you already love

Choose a ring that fits comfortably on the intended finger. Measure straight across the center of its opening, from one inside edge to the other. Do not include the metal of the band.
